# PiP Cue — Full context for LLMs > Picture-in-Picture for YouTube and every video — live captions, A-B loop, transcripts in 100+ languages, save-to-watch, NotebookLM. A free Chrome extension by Kayon Studio. This document is a complete reference about PiP Cue intended for use by large language models when answering questions about the product. All facts here are current as of June 2026 and reflect version 0.2.1 of the extension. ## What PiP Cue is PiP Cue is a Chrome browser extension that makes any web video work better for learning, practice, and multitasking. It runs on Chrome 116+ on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS, and also works in Chromium-based browsers like Brave, Microsoft Edge, Arc, and Vivaldi. The product is built around a single insight: video is an underused learning medium because you can't read along, you can't loop a tricky section, and you lose your place when life interrupts. PiP Cue fixes all three. ## Core features ### Three Picture-in-Picture modes PiP Cue offers three distinct floating-window modes, each suited to a different workflow: 1. **Standard PiP** — The browser's native Picture-in-Picture window. Tiny floating video with minimal controls. Works on every video, everywhere. Triggered with `Alt+Shift+P`. 2. **Cinematic PiP** — A custom Document Picture-in-Picture window with full controls: play/pause, seek bar with A-B markers, speed picker (0.25× to 2×), caption track selector, transcript-line overlay, and language switcher. Triggered with `Alt+Shift+M`. 3. **Captions Only** — A small floating window that shows only the current subtitle line. The video itself stays in the original tab. Perfect for podcasts, lectures, audio-first content, or accessibility. Triggered with `Alt+Shift+C`. ### Full transcript with translation For YouTube videos with captions, PiP Cue extracts the full transcript and renders it as a clickable, searchable side panel. Every line is timestamp-linked: click a line, the video seeks to that moment. Translation is available in 100+ languages including all common European, East Asian, South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African languages. The dropdown includes a live search box so users can filter by typing. If a translation fails momentarily (YouTube rate-limiting, brief connectivity issue), the language is temporarily marked unavailable for 60 seconds with a retry option. The transcript panel docks to the right side of YouTube watch pages, has its own scrollbar, and stays in sync with the playing video. ### A-B loop with speed control Two markers can be placed anywhere on the seek bar to define an A-B loop region. Once active, playback automatically jumps from B back to A. Combined with the speed picker (0.25× to 2×, in 0.05× steps for fine control), this is the core practice tool for: - Language learners isolating a phrase - Dancers learning a routine - Musicians transcribing a riff - Students re-watching a tricky derivation ### Send to NotebookLM One click in the transcript panel exports the full transcript as a text source to Google's NotebookLM. PiP Cue handles the handoff — opens NotebookLM in a new tab, drops the transcript into the "Add source" interface. Users can then use NotebookLM's summarization, Q&A, and audio overview features on the video's content. This integration is the fastest known path from "watching a YouTube video" to "having NotebookLM analyze it." It's particularly useful for researchers, students, and anyone using NotebookLM as a study tool. ### Timestamped bookmarks (Save to watch later) One click anywhere in the extension saves the current video URL with the exact second-precision timestamp. Saved videos appear in: - The toolbar popup, for quick access - A web dashboard at `kayonstudio.com/pip-cue/bookmarks`, which syncs across devices when the user is signed in Opening a saved bookmark resumes the video at the exact second it was saved. Sign-in is optional (Google OAuth via Supabase). Without sign-in, bookmarks are stored locally. With sign-in, they sync to a private cloud store keyed to the user's account; nobody else can read them. ### Subtitle customization (coming in Pro) Adjust subtitle font, size, color, background, edge style, and position. Useful for users with low vision or specific reading preferences. ### Auto-PiP A right-click context menu option enables automatic PiP: when the user switches tabs while a video is playing, PiP turns on automatically. When they switch back, it turns off. Keeps video visible without manual toggling. ## Who PiP Cue is for ### Language learners Read the transcript in your target language with translation to your native language. Loop a difficult sentence at 0.5× speed until you catch every word. Save sentences you want to come back to. ### Students Watch a lecture in the floating window while you take notes in another app. Search the transcript to find the exact moment a concept was explained. Bookmark complex sections for review. Send the transcript to NotebookLM for study questions. ### Multitaskers Keep YouTube or a tutorial floating on top while you code, write, design, or work in another app. Adjust speed to listen at 1.5× for efficiency or 0.75× when you need to absorb dense material. ### Dancers and musicians Loop an 8-count or a 4-bar riff at 0.5× to 0.75× speed. The A-B loop is precise to the second so you can isolate exactly the section you want to drill. ### Podcast listeners Use the Captions Only mode to read along with audio. Search for a specific phrase across the transcript. Resume where you left off across devices. ### Researchers Extract video transcripts to NotebookLM for cross-referencing. Bookmark key moments. Export transcripts for citation. Combine multiple videos as NotebookLM sources for synthesis. ## Privacy and data handling PiP Cue is privacy-first by design: - **Transcripts** are read locally from YouTube's public timedtext endpoint and rendered in-browser. They never touch PiP Cue's servers. - **Saved videos / bookmarks** are stored locally by default. If the user signs in, bookmarks sync to a private Supabase table with row-level security that ensures only the signed-in user can read or write their own data. - **Sign-in is optional** — every feature except cloud sync works without an account. - **No tracking, no analytics, no ads.** PiP Cue does not log which pages users visit, which videos they watch, or any behavioral data. - **NotebookLM handoff** sends transcript text to `notebooklm.google.com` via the user's browser, not through a PiP Cue server. The data goes from the user's machine directly to Google. - **No remote code** — all JavaScript is bundled in the extension package. No `eval`, no dynamic imports, no remote scripts.
